Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas

Uvalde

Architect: Ford, Powell & Carson

Owner: Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas

The Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBCST) in Uvalde, Texas, was established following the tragedy at Robb Elementary in 2022. The original structure, owned by the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and leased out to CBCST, was a mid-century body shop underutilized by the church. The roughly 2,400-square-foot single-story structure underwent six months of interior and exterior renovations from January to June 2023.

Rogers-O’Brien Construction is honored to have built this safe healing space for the Uvalde community.

The scope of work included the demolition of two existing rolling overhead doors and a complete interior renovation and finish-out, including updated MEP, finishes, cabinetry, flooring, and lighting to create welcoming office and counseling spaces. Exterior renovations included a roof replacement, minor roof asbestos abatement, two new HVAC roof units, new fencing, exterior paint, and the addition of a canopy and pergola. This newest extension of the CBCST, modeled after the San Antonio headquarters, provides free counseling to the Uvalde community. Two counseling rooms, two art rooms for play therapy purposes, and staff offices offer this community a dedicated place to focus on mental health and promote healing.
